Last night's show was excellent. Traffic on the Thruway was stopped for
about 20 miles, so the show did not start on time because not everyone was
there yet. This was good for us, because we did not get there until 7:55.
The set list was pretty much the same as in Philly, they did "Honesty" and
"Don't let the Sun go Down" together and then Elton started his set. Maybe
I'm a bit biased, but I had never seen Elton live before and I think he left
a bit to be desired. He just sort of sat there and played, VERY boring
compared to Billy. Billy came out for "I Guess that's why they call it the
Blues" and the crowd went nuts! It was very obviously a Billy Joel crowd.
After the intermission, Billy took the stage and started with "Extremes." At
first, I think something was wrong, he was pissed about somethin, I don't
know. (My mother thought he was drunk.) He just sort of sat there and played
and I was afraid for a little while that he was not going to but on the
usual BJ show. Of course, I was wrong. At one point, he made the comment,
"You know, I ain't attached anymore so now I can admire all the women!"
Hmm.... He only did Lullabye and RoD from RoD. It seemed to me that he was
very angry at someone (her??) because he sang stuff like "Big SHot", "My
Life", "You may be right", all of his "angry" songs. There were no songs
that could be vaguly about her, only songs that were angry, almost if he
wanted to prove something to her. He also was a bit more rambunctious around
the stage then he was the last time I saw him (11/93). I think he was trying
to show off because he was pissed off at her. Gotta go catch a plane, but I
just wanted to share quick impressions.
